About

When a contract falls apart, a partner walks out with your clients, or a property deal turns into a lawsuit, the attorney you hire determines how much of your business survives the fight. Lurie & Associates was built for exactly these moments. Since 2004, our Los Angeles firm has represented business owners, entrepreneurs, investors, and property owners across Southern California in business litigation, real estate disputes, commercial law, and corporate matters.
We are a small firm by design. Our attorneys came from some of the largest law firms in the country, and we kept the training, the trial skill, and the standards. What we left behind was the overhead, the layers of junior associates, and the billing culture that treats a client’s dispute as an annuity. At Lurie & Associates, the attorney you meet at your consultation is the attorney who handles your case.

Our Story

Barak Lurie founded the firm in 2004 after fifteen years at major law firms, including Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps and Christensen, Miller (now Glaser Weil). He built his practice on a straightforward idea: business clients deserve big-firm litigation quality with the responsiveness and accountability of a firm where the name on the door answers the phone.
More than twenty years later, that idea still defines how we work. The firm has secured verdicts and settlements in the millions of dollars, handled appeals that changed the outcome of hard-fought cases, and earned the Martindale-Hubbell Client Champion Gold award in 2021, a recognition based directly on client reviews. We are also a BBB Accredited Business.

Barak Lurie

Managing Partner

Barak earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law and his M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management in the same year, 1989, after graduating with honors from Stanford University. That combination shapes his practice: he approaches every dispute as both a litigator and a businessman, weighing the legal strategy against what actually makes economic sense for the client. He served as principal attorney on the Sterling v. Taylor appeal, which reversed the lower court’s decision, and spent years as general counsel to high-profile business clients. Outside the courtroom, Barak hosts a weekly Los Angeles radio program and is a best-selling author.

Dane is a first-chair trial attorney and former partner at an AM Law 100 firm, where he represented Fortune 500 clients in the banking sector in state and federal courts. His results include a complete defense verdict after a 20-day jury trial for a homeowners association and property manager, a result that also secured more than $3 million in attorney’s fees, and a full dismissal after a five-day bench trial in a dispute involving multi-million-dollar Malibu properties. He earned his law degree with honors from Syracuse University and completed a federal externship in the Northern District of New York.

Matt began his career at Latham & Watkins in mergers and acquisitions after earning his J.D. from Georgetown Law Center, where he served as an editor of The Georgetown Law Journal. He has since built a broad civil and business litigation practice covering arbitrations, mediations, and jury trials. Matt has also co-founded food and apparel companies with national distribution, which means he has sat on the client’s side of the table and understands the operational pressure a lawsuit puts on a working business.

How We Approach Your Case

Litigation is a tool, not a destination. Some disputes need to be tried to verdict, and we prepare every case as if it will be. Many others are better resolved through aggressive early motion practice, negotiation, or mediation, and we tell clients honestly which path protects their interests at the lowest cost. Our practice also includes arbitration and mediation services, so we know how disputes look from every seat in the room.
Because our attorneys have backgrounds in business, not just law, we measure success the way you do: by the outcome net of fees, the time your leadership spent distracted, and the relationships that survived the dispute.

Talk to Us Before the Dispute Gets Ahead of You

Most of the expensive mistakes in business disputes happen early: a demand letter answered in anger, a contract term conceded in an email, evidence lost because nobody thought to preserve it. If you are facing a dispute in Los Angeles, Irvine, or anywhere in Southern California, call us at (310) 478-7788 or request a consultation online. We will give you a straight assessment of where you stand and what your options actually are.
